January 2018
Your monthly source of European youth related information.

Eurodesk wishes you a Happy New Year!

2018 is a crucial year for the future of Europe. The EU will propose key legislative proposals on the next generation of EU programmes for 2021, including those that will come after Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. We will push for an increased investment in youth mobility and youth information together with our main partners. The ErasmusX10 campaign will continue to unfold in 2018. Eurodesk will make sure all young people are informed about the opportunities offered by these programmes. We will continuously improve our online services towards young people and youth workers with a brand new website and an enhanced library of mobility opportunities. We will continue to work with the European Commission on the further development of the European Youth Portal. We will implement our new social media strategy. In 2018 we will also celebrate the fifth edition of the Time to Move Campaign that reached 135.000 young people through more than 800 events throughout Europe in its last edition. All the Eurodesk team wishes you successful initiatives to enhance youth mobility and youth participation!

We are excited to announce that our team has moved to a new location! Since 1999 Eurodesk Brussels Link has been based in Schuman, but the wind of change has blown us all the way to rue aux Fleurs. We begin the 2018 in the new setting, with the new energy and the newly born appreciation for team-building construction work. We couldn't be more thrilled about our new space and all of the memories that we will create here in the future!

Social issues, education and culture on EU Leaders’ Agenda

On 15th December 2017, EU leaders exchanged views on social issues, education and culture. Their discussion built on the Leaders' Agenda debate on culture and education as well as the Social Summit, which took place in Gothenburg in November 2017.

EU leaders highlighted priorities to further develop the EU's social dimension as well the field of education and culture, including the following priorities: making the Erasmus+ programme broader and more inclusive; enabling students to obtain a degree by combining studies in several EU countries; ensuring that more young people speak at least two foreign European languages; promoting cooperation on mutual recognition of higher education and school leaving diplomas at secondary education level.
